For the 2011 to 2012 budget discussion the mission to install synthetic grass was a hot topic. The topic Synthetic turf was also in everyone’s mind for the year 2011-2012 school budget votes. Whether inhabitants wanted synthetic turf or not the catchphrase has grown in the budget discussion for the vote. The Bellmore Merrick Central High School District was unable to pay for synthetic grass from the capital project fund. In order to install 3 turf fields for the district, the Bellmore Merrick Central High School District have to put up a bond referendum. This would raise taxes for the community, something that some board member did not feel financially responsible doing. Nina Lanci, president of the board has said that there are people in our society who cannot afford to pay one penny more in taxes. The board explained that to install the grass and purchase the grooming products it would cost between $3.8 million to $4.5 million. With addition to that the board has also explained that there would be additional cost to install the turfs. The maintenance and re- done of the turf need to proceed in every ten years at a price of $500, 000 per field and $130,000 per field to remove the old turf.
